Chicago has been rather kind to us with it’s temperatures lately (dare I say, an early Spring?!) but I am pining for sunshine and seventy degree weather. Everywhere I go in the city, I see snow! Snow up to my hips, slushy gray snow, huge frosty puddles of semi melted snow. And guess what? We’re getting more snow this week! Oy vey. Chicago, I adore you but this snow business has got to stop. I’m so anxious for summer weather and summer sunlight, I wish I could just snap my fingers and voila! alas, it doesn’t work that way. Luckily, there are quite a few summer portrait sessions and photographs I’ve been meaning to re-edit. Here is the ever lovely, Katherine, at Northerly Island last October (ah, Indian Summers!)

Friday Freebie! The Ichigo PUNCH! LR 3 Preset by OKRFOTO

Ichigo PUNCH! is a Lightroom Preset specifically for fair to light skin tones. It is non destructive, so you’ll have to do all your post-post processing before hand (set white balance, add fill light, highlight recovery, ect). Ichigo PUNCH! gives portraits a creamy, dreamy & delicious feel with a slightly rosy strawberry creme color to the skin with a hint of gold, emerald and sapphire! Tested in Lightroom 3.3 but should work fine in Lightroom 2 as well.

Maiko at the Museum of Contemporary Art – Chicago

I met Maiko two years ago when we were both studying in Tokyo and we’ve kept in touch ever since. Recently returned back to the States, she was in Milwaukee and head down to spend a few days with me in the city. Despite the cold, she was a real trooper and we had a blast visiting the Shedd Aquarium, the Lincoln Park Conservatory and the Museum of Contemporary Art. I took a quick portrait of her at the little koi pond inside of the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Next time we meet, I’ll be visiting her in Colorado.

The Dress Looks Good on You

I have been so unbelievably busy these past few weeks, I almost forgetting to breathe! My winter vacation somehow transformed itself into the busiest planning and booking spree ever. I’m shooting a destination wedding in Hawai’i next March. I’ve got one lifestyle session in South Beach in late February and a really exciting fashion shoot at Salvage One in early February for an up and coming Chicago blogtress. Hanging out with one of my Tokyo buddies and also shooting a snowy, city lifestyle session with her. Not to mention, I have a few coffee dates with some couples I am super excited to meet and get to know!

But I’m still busy at work getting content ready for this redesign. I’m currently collaborating with an amazing graphic designer for our new logo and I cannot wait to share it with you all, it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous! Rumor has it, we’ve also got an upcoming feature and interview (two in fact! Wow) that should be running in February/March. With that said, there are plenty dates available in our 2011 calendar, go take a look-see at our new contact page and book today. Or if you just want to say hey, feel free to do that too

Seems fitting to start the new year with a tiny trip down memory lane to my last wedding of 2010 in Cocoa Beach, Florida.Wesley and Toni were such a joy to photograph and their winter themed wedding was a delight for the eyes. I’d like to wish everyone a very happy new year. There’s a lot going on for the new year already, including a trip to New York in March for a week and a half to photograph a fashion lookbook…here we go!

Taylor called me up a few weeks ago to talk about doing her first year anniversary photographs. Taylor and I used to work together for our college newspaper, and she was the sweetest woman I have had the pleasure of knowing. Warm and caring, full of humility and a lover of vintage kitsch, we got along swimmingly. I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her anniversary session. I got even more excited when she suggested we shoot on Halloween afternoon, on Northwestern University’s gorgeous Gothic campus. Taylor and Jake relived their nuptials, dressed in their classic yet vintage inspired wedding garments. It was a chilly October day, but they toughed it out, reveling in each other’s warmth and love. It was a beautiful shoot.
